One thing above all others in this great nation of ours is our freedom. Far too many of our heroic men and women in the armed forces have made the ultimate sacrifice in order to secure this freedom for ourselves, our children, and our grandchildren. Their sacrifice should not be in vain. I support our troops everywhere they’re stationed as well as our veterans everywhere they’re residing. This freedom we have been enjoying for so long has been gravely threatened, particularly since the horrible attacks of 9/11.
Military veterans are important members of our community and they deserve our gratitude. As a country, we must ensure our military veterans are cared for in a manner that honors their service to America. Accordingly, it's essential that congress fully funds and expands the Veterans Affairs Department so that veterans have timely access to quality health care and other critical services. We must also fully restore cuts to military pensions insisted upon by Republicans in the last few budget deals.
Many veterans suffer from serious health issues, poverty, and homelessness. This is a national disgrace, and we owe it to these brave men and women to improve veterans assistance. To this end, we must ensure veterans can access health care, mental health counseling, family assistance, transition assistance, and other benefits they need to live a healthy and productive life after their service.
My opponent, Mimi Walters, preaches that she is pro-military. But in reality she is pro-military-industrial-complex and against fair veterans benefits and rights. She has not supported the “restoring all cuts to military pensions” proposal. She has not supported Women Veterans Access to Quality Care Act, which requires VA facilities to meet the needs of women veterans and every VA medical center to have obstetricians or gynecologists on staff. She has not supported the Post-9/11 GI Bill, which would give a new generation of veterans, servicemembers, and dependents an opportunity to obtain a college degree. Once again, she isn't working for WE the People. Instead, she is working for her Wall Street and Billionaire Class campaign contributors. See which industries are Walters' largest contributors here!
