Contrary to some people’s beliefs, the Social Security program is NOT an ‘entitlement program’. It is a kind of insurance account we all pay into, ONLY to retrieve what we’ve been paying into during our entire working life, after reaching our retirement age. It’s a very successful program that has had a very positive effect on our society. Before this program was created, our seniors were suffering in poverty at an alarming rate. Since the inception of this program, our senior poverty rate has been dropping considerably.
Many politicians have tried to bankrupt this program by either lowering the rate that is taken out of our paychecks to fund it or failing to increase the rate enough to reflect the anticipated rising costs. Another way politicians have tried to bankrupt this program is by allocating the money in this fund to expenses outside of this fund. One may wonder why some politicians are practicing or attempting to practice such maneuvers. The answer is simple. They want to prove that it’s another Democratic idea doomed to fail. In fact, they want it to fail as soon as possible, and continue to eliminate it, primarily through efforts to privatize it.
My opponent, Walters, supported YES on reducing tax payments on Social Security benefits (Bill sponsored by Archer, R-TX; Bill HR 4865). Walters Supported NO on strengthening the Social Security Lockbox (Motion to Recommit introduced by Rangel, D-NY; Bill HR 1259). Walters supported to reduce taxes on Social Security earnings (Contract with America 93-CWA9). She wants to bankrupt the Social Security program as soon as possible. She is considered anti-senior by the Alliance for Retired Americans. She is not fighting for WE the People.
