Hemp & Marijuana Legalization & Taxation
We must recognize that the war on drugs has been a failure and proactively change our approach to this issue. Our country wastes enormous amounts of money locking up people for non-violent, victimless drug offenses. This is one of many reasons why we need to reform our criminal justice system and rethink our approach to marijuana. At the same time, we must recognize that our country is faced with epidemic levels of heroine, methamphetamine, and prescription drug abuse. As your congressman, I will prioritize the implementation of smart policies which address our nation's drug abuse problem while ensuring that marijuana use is regulated in a way that is safe and fiscally advantageous.
California and many other states have already legalized medicinal marijuana, and such laws should be supported by the federal government. In fact, studies have shown that much of our deficit can be paid for if marijuana is legalized and taxed. This is an idea I support, and I will work to make sure marijuana is regulated in a responsible way.
Too many families have been torn apart due to laws which set harsh penalties for possessing small amounts of marijuana. Instead of criminalizing marijuana use, we should make laws that regulate and tax recreational marijuana use in a way that increase government revenue while ensuring responsible use of recreational and medicinal marijuana.
My opponent, Mimi Walters, has long opposed the legalization and taxation of hemp and marijuana. Walters is not fighting for WE the People. She is fighting for her Wall Street, and Billionaire Class campaign contributors. See which industries are Walters' largest contributors here!
