Equal Pay & Family Values
As your congressman, I will fight to ensure that women receive salaries equal to their male counterparts. It's disgraceful that today, in 21st -Century America, women still make only 79 cents for every dollar men in similar positions make. I will make it a cornerstone of my agenda to fight for equal pay for women. We cannot sit idly by while hard-working Americans continue to suffer from wage discrimination simply on account of their gender, age, or ethnicity.
I will also fight for paid family leave and paid sick leave so that parents can take care of their sick children. We also need to ensure that all Americans-- regardless of income-- have access to quality child care. Sadly, America is one of the only industrialized countries that has failed to provide such basic support to women.
Women shouldn't be discouraged from having children or forgoing their careers after childbirth. Policies which hinder female career advancement aren't just discriminatory; they also harm the economy. Studies have shown that companies with more female executives perform better, so it's crucial that we implement laws which encourage and support female leadership in the workplace.
It's time to catch up with our peers in other countries and start treating women with respect. Only by taking a comprehensive approach to women's rights can we end the archaic practice of gender discrimination. By doing so, we'll ensure that women are afforded the respect they deserve and given equal opportunities to move our nation forward.
My opponent, Mimi Walters, supports NO on four weeks of paid parental leave for federal employees (Federal Employees Paid Parental Leave Act; Bill H.R.626). She doesn't support equal pay for equal work. Once again, she isn't working for WE the People. Instead, she is working for her Wall Street and Billionaire Class campaign contributors. See which industries are Walters' largest contributors here!
